Prune a 9 ans et est choquée par le nombre de bouteilles en plastique qu’elle voit sur le bord des routes. Avec son amie Zelda, elle cherche à savoir depuis combien de temps la pollution existe et « d’où vient le problème ». Mais la pollution n’est pas le seul problème que les adultes n’ont pas vu. Prune connaît un adulte, Winter, qui lit des livres compliqués et qui pourrait peut-être les aider.

9 year-old Prune is shocked by the number of plastic bottles she sees on the roadsides. With her friend Zelda, they try to find out how long pollution has existed and « where the problem comes from ». But pollution isn’t the only problem the grown-ups haven’t seen. Prune knows a grown-up named Winter who reads complicated books and might be able to help. But Winter is not help. For the two little girls, the most important things are to distance themselves from the models they are given and to stop believing adult lies. Prune confronts Winter with the lack of conscience and inventiveness of his generation. But the generational conflict soon gives way to a close-knit duo in search of a more promising world than the one they both inherit.
